FIRST CCAA ROAD TESTS UP NEXT FOR TRITONS
The UC San Diego women's soccer team comes off of a season-long five-game homestand in which it went 3-2, and hits the road this week for another pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matches. The Tritons (6-3, 2-2 CCAA) head to Carson on Friday, Oct. 2, to take on Cal State Dominguez Hills (1-7, 0-4 CCAA) in primetime at 7 p.m. inside Toro Stadium. Then on Sunday, Oct. 4, UCSD faces defending CCAA champion Cal State L.A. (1-5-2, 1-2-1 CCAA) for the second time this season, at 2 p.m. in Los Angeles. The Tritons had edged the Golden Eagles in a non-conference meeting, 2-1, at home on Sept. 14. Both of this week's matches serve as the second halves of doubleheaders with the UCSD men, who lead things off at 4:30 p.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectively.

UCSD is at the halfway mark of its 18-game regular-season schedule. The Tritons sit in a four-way tie for fifth in the CCAA through four of 12 league contests. They are 1-1 outside of La Jolla this year.

MATCHDAY SPECS
Once again in 2015, all regular-season home matches at Triton Soccer Stadium are free to attend. Parking permits are required, however, on weeknights on the UCSD campus. Parking permits can be purchased at machines situated at corners of either of the nearest parking lots, behind the spectator stand, as well as the Hopkins Parking Structure behind RIMAC. Parking is free on weekends. All games, home and away, have live stats. Some matches also feature video, including Friday night's contest in Carson for a pay-per-view fee of $7.99. All live links are available here.

A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK
UCSD turned the page on a disappointing prior weekend that saw it suffer two agonizing 3-2 home losses both in overtime, by defeating Cal State East Bay and Stanislaus State, also in La Jolla. On Friday night, the Tritons overcame an early 1-0 deficit to win 3-1 through goals by Mary ReillyKatie O'Laughlin and Megumi Barber in front of a season-high 791 spectators as students returned to campus for the fall quarter. Then on Sunday afternoon, O'Laughlin headed in a Kiera Bocchino free kick in the 19th minute, and that held up as the lone score in a gritty 1-0 triumph over reigning West Region champion and rival Stanislaus State. UCSD finished the match with just nine players after red cards in the 40th and 84th minutes. Kelcie Brodsky made six saves for her third shutout.

TRITONS IN REGION POLL
UCSD moved back up from 10th to eighth in the fourth edition of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) West Region poll, released on Tuesday.

O'LAUGHLIN NAMED CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
On Tuesday, UCSD's sophomore striker Katie O'Laughlin became the first Triton in 2015 to earn CCAA Player of the Week distinction. The Carlsbad product accounted for the decisive goal in both UCSD victories at home over the weekend, representing the first game-winning tallies of her career. She now leads the team with four goals on the year. The weekly CCAA award is her first.

BRODSKY BROADENS CAREER CREDENTIALS, ECLIPSES 300-SAVE PLATEAU
Kelcie Brodsky continues to add to her stellar numbers as UCSD's fourth-year starting goalkeeper. Having set the program's single-season saves mark at 114 as a true freshman in 2012, she broke the career standard in that category in the final game of her junior campaign. She then eclipsed the 300-save mark with her seventh in the 56th minute at Azusa Pacific (9/10), reaching double figures for a single contest for the second time as she finished with 11. Brodsky's up-to-date career total stands at 321. She is tied for third in the CCAA with 36 on the year, having twice led the league in saves, in 2012 (114) and 2014 (83). At home against Point Loma (9/5), she kept her 20th individual shutout as a Triton, and now has three on the year and 22 in all. The Agoura Hills product has received postseason recognition from the CCAA for each of her first three years. She made the All-CCAA Second Team as a freshman and junior, garnering All-CCAA honorable mention in between.

YOUTH BEING SERVED
Twelve of UCSD's 14 goals this season have come from first- or second-year Tritons, with four by sophomore Katie O'Laughlin, three by freshman Mary Reilly, and two each by sophomore Jordyn McNutt and freshman Megumi Barber. The other three scores have come from freshman Summer Bales, redshirt junior Kiera Bocchino, and redshirt sophomore Maxia Espino. Underclassmen have also been the providers of nine of 14 assists, with two each by Bales, McNutt and Reilly. UCSD had a season high of six true freshmen or sophomores in its starting lineup in three straight matches from Sept. 12-18. Goalkeeper Kelcie Brodsky is the only senior who has seen action.

HEAD COACH BRIAN McMANUS
Brian McManus is in his 29th season in charge of the UCSD women's soccer program. With a career record of 456-82-50, he has achieved the most wins (one more than Gabe Mejail of Merrimack College) in NCAA Division II women's soccer history, and fifth-most for all divisions. McManus' career winning percentage heading into 2015 of .820, ranked among the top 10 in college women's soccer annals, both overall (No. 9) and Division II only (No. 4). He was also second in win percentage among active Division II coaches. McManus has directed UCSD to seven national championships and a record eight CCAA banners, with the Tritons advancing to the national semifinals a remarkable 15 times in his 28 years. Under his guidance, UCSD has qualified for the NCAA tournament all 13 seasons during the Division III days, and all but three (2004, 2013-14) of 15 years since the move up to Division II. McManus' Tritons missed the CCAA Championship for the first time in 2013, having earned 13 straight berths after joining the conference. They rallied late to achieve a return trip to that event a year ago.

JONESY NOW ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH
Kristin Jones, a two-time national champion and two-time All-American as one of the greatest players to ever come through the storied UCSD women's soccer program, was elevated by Brian McManus to the position of associate head coach on Aug. 28. She is in her 16th straight year as a Triton, and 12th on the UCSD bench. Jones joined McManus' staff immediately upon exhausting her eligibility, ahead of the 2004 season, and became his top assistant in 2006.

ABOUT THE TOROS
Cal State Dominguez Hills (1-7, 0-4 CCAA) is still searching for its first league win of the season, one of two such teams. The Toros have dropped six straight since their lone success, 11-0 at home over Sierra Nevada College on Sept. 6. They have managed just four goals in their seven losses. CSUDH most recently fell 3-1 at Cal Poly Pomona last Friday and 1-0 at Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday. Aileen Nasypany is in her second season in charge.

SERIES HISTORY
UCSD leads the all-time series, 24-17-5, and took both of last year's meetings. The Tritons first earned a 4-2 decision in Carson in non-conference action on Sept. 19 behind four different goal-scorers. Kiera Bocchino, who capped the scoring in that one, then hit a brace in a 3-0 rout in La Jolla on Senior Day on Oct. 30. The teams split two matchups in 2013, with each winning on the road. The lone goal in a 1-0 Triton victory in Carson on Sept. 13 came from a 61st-minute Cassie Callahan penalty kick. The Toros won 2-0 in La Jolla on Oct. 18. UCSD was unbeaten over its previous nine (6-0-3) against the Toros since a 2-1 overtime loss in La Jolla in the 2009 regular-season finale.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Cal State L.A. (1-5-2, 1-2-1 CCAA) got out to a rough start to 2015 after earning both the regular-season and tournament titles in the CCAA a year ago, but is coming off of its first win, 1-0, at Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday. Junior midfielder Veronika Steen converted from the penalty spot in the 14th minute for the only goal. It was in fact just the third score for CSULA in eight games this year. Redshirt freshman Adriana Maldonado (0.82 GAA, 36 saves) is the starting goalkeeper. The Golden Eagles, preseason CCAA favorites, host Cal State San Marcos on Friday night before welcoming in UCSD on Sunday. Former USC great Isabelle Harvey is in her third season at the helm.

SERIES HISTORY
UCSD leads the all-time series, 17-10-2. The rivals have already faced off once this season, in non-conference play in La Jolla back on Sept. 14. CSULA was still ranked No. 14 nationally at the time, but the Tritons came away with a 2-1 victory as freshman Megumi Barber notched her first career goal at 75:08 after scores by Mary Reilly and Danielle Telles had cancelled each other out over the first nine minutes. The teams played each other both in non-conference and conference action a year ago as well. CSULA won 1-0 at home in CCAA play, just four days after a 1-1 stalemate in La Jolla. The Tritons had taken three straight over the Golden Eagles prior to their 2013 season finale, when they dropped a difficult 1-0 decision at home, Andrea Lammers scoring with just 42 seconds left in double overtime. UCSD needed to win that contest in order to qualify for a 14th straight CCAA Championship. The Tritons won the first meeting in 2013, 3-1 in Los Angeles on Sept. 15, overturning a 1-0 halftime deficit through an Izzy Pozurama equalizer and two Cassie Callahan goals.
