Flames Drop Season Opener
Fremont, Neb – College of Saint Mary soccer fell in their season opener 1-0 to Midland University (Neb.). The Warriors held an 11-2 shot on goal advantage over the Flames.
The game’s only goal, scored by Midland's Courtney Crawford, came at the 74:40 mark in the second half. CSM had a chance to even the score moments later as Abby Schlater (SR, Council Bluffs, Iowa) dribbled through the Warrior defense and had a shot on goal. Schlater’s shot was saved by the Midland goalkeeper.
Kira Cross (SR, Omaha, Neb.) had three shots to lead the Flames. Whitney Brown (SO, North Platte, Neb.) added one shot on goal.
“This is our first game of the season and we learned a lot,” said Shad Beam, College of Saint Mary soccer coach. “We are getting to know one another and once we put everything together, we will surprise a lot of teams.”
Jackie Swanger (SR, Omaha, Neb.) played 90 minutes in goal for CSM and had a game high ten saves.
The Flames return to action on Wednesday night in Crete, Neb. against Doane College. Kick-off is set for 6:00pm at Simon Field in Doane’s campus.
