FLC women’s soccer receives votes in final NSCAA rankings of regular season

November 9, 2011

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Fort Lewis College women’s soccer team (14-2-4 overall) dropped out of the national rankings in the final regular season NCAA Division II poll of the season, released yesterday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Continental Tire.

The Skyhawks, a staple in the Top 25 the entire season until yesterday, went 1-0-1 in last week’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships, beating New Mexico Highlands 3-1 last Wednesday before tying No. 8 Colorado Mines 1-1 through two overtimes in the semifinals of the RMAC playoffs. The Orediggers advanced to the RMAC championship game by beating the Skyhawks 3-1 in a penalty kick shootout following the match, which was officially recorded as a 1-1 draw.

Two RMAC teams are ranked this week: No. 8 Colorado Mines (15-2-3) and No. 16 Regis (14-5-0). Fort Lewis received votes.

Fort Lewis (14-2-4) earned the No. 2 seed the NCAA Division II Central Region and will host games this Friday and Sunday at Dirks Field.

At 2 p.m. Friday, third seed Regis will face sixth seed Colorado Mesa (10-7-4) at Dirks Field. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for students (with ID), senior citizens (age 65 and older), and children (ages 6-12). Children five and younger are admitted free of charge.

The winner of the first-round matchup will face Fort Lewis in the second round on Sunday. Kickoff time depends on the outcome of Thursday’s men’s NCAA playoff game between No. 3 Fort Lewis and No. 19 Metro State, scheduled for 2 p.m. at Dirks Field.

In the event of a doubleheader on Sunday, ticket prices will be $15 for adults and $8 for students (with ID), senior citizens (age 65 and older), and children (ages 6-12). Children five and younger are admitted free of charge. The women’s game would start at 11:30 a.m. and the men at 2:30 p.m.

If there’s just a stand-alone women’s game on Sunday, ticket prices will be identical to Friday’s game. In this case, the women’s game would start at 2 p.m.
