FLYERS TAKE 4-2 WIN OVER IPFW IN SEASON
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Dayton men’s soccer team opened the 2013 season with a 4-2 win at IPFW Sunday afternoon. Freshman Brian Richards netted two goals in his collegiate debut for the Flyers, including the game-winner in the 79th minute.

The teams headed into the locker room at halftime with UD leading, 1-0. IPFW netted the equalizer just over minutes into the second period when the Mastodons’ Jacob Murphy found the back of the goal and was assisted by Corey Tom. Shortly after, a scuffle between IPFW’s Austin West and UD’s graduate student Eddie Jones resulted in a yellow and red card respectively.
IPFW took the lead in the 55th minute when Oscar Uyamadu scored his first goal of the season from Murphy and Jose Rodriguez. In the 59th minute, the Mastodons’ Kyle Ackerman was shown a yellow card, the team’s second of the half.
Junior Greg Enstone tied the match up in the 61st minute for the Flyers as sophomore Amass Amankona assisted on the game-tying goal. IPFW’s Drake Bowers was shown the contest’s third yellow card in the 65th minute.
Amankona had a great look in the 74th minute but the ball deflected off the post. Richards struck again in the 79th minute for the Flyers to put up the go-ahead goal for UD, which would prove to be the game-winner. Senior Victor Duru was credited with the assist. Amankona netted an insurance goal for the Flyers in the 84th minute and UD held on for the 4-2 win over IPFW.
