FULLERTON, Calif. -- Cal State Fullerton senior Stacey Fox netted her fifth goal of the year in the 17th minute and that was all it took for the Titans to post their sixth shutout of the season, handing visiting UC Riverside a 1-0 defeat on Sunday night at Titan Stadium.

The victory extended Fullerton's winning streak to four-straight contests as the Titans (7-7 overall, 4-1 in the Big West Conference)  reached the .500 mark for the first time this season. The Highlanders suffered their fifth-consecutive loss in falling to 5-9-2 overall and remained winless in conference play at 0-5.

Fox's 17th minute strike turned out to be the lone score of the match as fellow senior Jennifer Smith looped a ball behind the Riverside defense onto the foot of a sprinting Fox, who chipped a shot over a charging Jessica White, who made seven saves, for the only score of the night.

It was Fox's second game-winner of the season and her first goal since netting the game-tying strike against Long Beach State on Sept. 30.

The defense then stood strong, holding the Highlanders to just five shots on the night -- just one of those coming in the second half -- while Fullerton took 15 of its own for the match. The Titans also finished with 11 corner kicks (all in the first half) to just two for Riverside.

Sophomore Rebecca Wilson finished with a team-high three shots for the Titans, who had 10 players finish with at least one shot on the night. Andrea Morales finished with three of the five for UCR.

Junior Lindsey Maricic finished with two saves while posting her fifth shutout of the season and the 11th of her career -- just two shy of Laura Janke (2000-03) for second place on the all-time list.

Cal State Fullerton closes out the home portion of its 2012 schedule next weekend against the Big West's Central Coast contingent, hosting UC Santa Barbara on Friday (Oct. 19) at 7 p.m. and Cal Poly on Sunday (Oct. 21) at 1 p.m.

NOTES: Cal State Fullerton's 11 corner kicks in the first half were just one shy of a season high and two off the school record accomplished three times (last against Pacific on NOv. 4, 2005)... Fullerton's result on Sunday marked the Titans' third-consecutive 1-0 result and the sixth one-goal victory of the season... 12 of Fullerton's 14 matches this season have been decided by a single goal... the Titans have not been shutout in their last 17 consecutive matches dating back to a 1-0 loss to Cal State Northridge on Oct. 20, 2011... Fox's goal gave her 41 career points -- just one shy of Christina Murillo for ninth on the all-time list -- while her 18 career goals give her sole possession of seventh place on the career list.
