Francis Marion falls to Lakers

AIKEN, SC – Clayton State University scored twice in a span of 2:18 midway through the opening half and went on to claim a 5-0 win over Francis Marion University, Wednesday night (Sept. 23) in non-conference women’s soccer action.  The match was played on the campus of USC Aiken.

Francis Marion (2-10-0) will play at Davidson College on Saturday at 7 p.m.  The next home match for FMU will be Oct. 3 when Longwood University comes to Hartzler Field for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

FMU senior goalkeeper Taylor O’Berry produced 10 saves as the Lakers outshot Francis Marion 26-3.

Senior Shauna Griffin, junior Tori Whigham, and sophomore Helena Moore accounted for the three FMU attempts.

Charlotte McCormack and Jessica Charman each played 45 minutes in goal for the Lakers and combined for the shutout.

Siobhan Wilson broke a scoreless deadlock at the 21:39 mark and teammate Maria Marti Bartis upped the margin to 2-0 with an unassisted tally at 23:57.  Clayton State added three second-half goals.
