Fullerton women beat Hawaii

September 17, 2009
Fullerton, Calif. - Danielle Bitonti's looping 25-yard shot from a sharp
angle found the far upper corner of the net Wednesday night and carried Cal
State Fullerton to a 1-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over Hawai'i.

The win improved the Titans' record to 2-4-1 and left them 2-0-1 in the last
three matches. Hawai'i lost for the second time in two tries on a 4-match
trip to the mainland and fell to 1-5-1.

Bitonti handled a throw-in from the right flank from Jennifer Smith in the
23rd minute and whirled toward the end line before sending an arcing ball
that carried over the head of Rainbow Wahine goalkeeper Kanani Taaca and
into the farside netting.

Jordan-Michelle Santos posted a shutout in her debut as a Titans'
goalkeeper. She is a transfer from San Jose State who got the call in place
of an injured Shannon Simpson. Santos made 6 saves, the most acrobatic
coming in the 68th minute when she went prone to her left to stop a crisp
shot off the foot of Ambree Ako.

Taaca was credited with 2 saves in her season debut as the Hawai'i
goalkeeper. The Titans had two other good scoring chances. Christina Murillo
was just wide of the post in the 59th minute and Geminesse Martinez hit the
crossbar in the 75th minute.

Fullerton is idle until Sept. 25 when it plays at Santa Clara.
