Galton Named CAA Rookie Of The Week
Hofstra freshman Leah Galton was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Galton (Harrogate, England) scored a key goal in Hofstra’s 3-1 victory over Towson that kept the Pride in first place in the CAA. She leads Hofstra with eight goals this season.
Galton, who also was the conference’s first Rookie of the Week of 2012 when she won it on Aug. 20, became the second Hofstra player to capture the honor multiple times. Fellow freshman Jill Mulholland(Levittown, N.Y.) also has won the award twice.
In all, Hofstra has now had a player named Rookie of the Week in three of the last four weeks. Mulholland won it on back-to-back weeks on Sept. 24 and Oct. 1.
Galton’s 19 points is tied for the third-most in the CAA and her 1.27 points-per-game average is second. Her eight goals is also third in the conference.
Hofstra (10-5, 6-1 CAA) enters the week in sole possession of first place in the conference. The Pride will play at Old Dominion (3-12, 1-6) on Friday at 7 p.m.
