Macon, Ga. – Playing in the first Atlantic Sun Conference game of the season, the Lipscomb men’s soccer team fell 2-1 to Mercer on Thursday night in Macon. Ga., as all three goals in the game were scored in the first stanza.

With the win, the Bears improve to 7-3-1 overall and 2-0-0 in A-Sun play while the Bisons slip to 3-8-0 and 0-1-0 in the loop.

Mercer jumped on the scoreboard quickly as Richie Edmondson and Ryan King strung a couple of passes together to Carl-Oscar Anderson for an eighth minute goal.

The Bears tacked on a second goal in the 24th minute as Brady O’Brien lofted a ball to Ashani Samuels for the header and the 2-0 lead.

Just four minutes later, the Bisons cut the lead in half. Omar Djabi connected a pass to Luke Gearin, finding the back of the net, for his second goal of the season.

After being outshot 11-4 in the first half, the Bisons dominated the second half firing 10 strikes and holding the Bears to just two. However, Lipscomb was unable to find the back of the net.

The Bisons had a final opportunity in the closing minutes with a set-piece off a free kick after a Mercer foul. However, Jeremy Reid’s shot from 20 yards was blocked by the Bears defense.

The senior, Reid, led the Bisons charge with a career-high eight shots while Gearin attempted three.

Freshman goalkeeper Miguel Hof made six saves for the Bisons while the A-Sun’s top goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh made four saves.

The Bisons make a quick turnaround, hosting Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. The game can be seen for free on ASun.TV.
