George Mason adds Herrera for fall 2010 season

FAIRFAX, Va. (January 29, 2010) – Alex Herrera, a former member of the U-17 U.S. Youth National Team, has enrolled at George Mason University for the spring semester. Herrera, a midfielder/defender, will play for Head Coach Greg Andrulis and the George Mason men’s soccer team during the fall 2010 season.
A native of Arlington, Va., Herrera played high school soccer for Yorktown High School and club soccer for the D.C. United Youth Academy. Herrera, a two-time All-State selection, earned First-Team All-Met honors from The Washington Post during his junior year. He was also a two-time Player of the Year in the National District and the Northern Region Player of the Year. In 2007, he was an adidas ESP All-Star selection.
Herrera, who was invited to the U-18 Mega National Team Camp in January of 2009, was named to the prestigious College Soccer News’ “Top 100 Freshmen to Keep an Eye On” list.
