Golden Eagles Ground ODU in Non-Conference Affair

October 1, 2011
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican''s men''s soccer team felt the sting of retribution as Charleston (W. Va.) exacted revenge for last year''s stunning 2-1 home overtime loss with a 2-1 victory of their own over the Panthers on Friday evening. With its third loss by a one-goal margin and first in regulation, ODU falls to 4-3-1 overall and 3-3-0 at home, while Charleston improves to 5-3-0 on the year. The Golden Eagles took the initial lead in the 30th minute as Harry Machacha ripped a shot from the deep far right wing about 16 yards away to the far side of the net. Less than three minutes had elapsed before the Panthers countered to tie the game at one apiece following a textbook sequence of passing. Sophomore Duncan Campbell (Hilliard, OH) found junior Andrew Edler (Hilliard, OH) who moved it ahead to senior Felix Darko (Reynoldsburg, OH) who connected from the near side left wing to the far post from 12 yards out for his fourth tally of the season. The score remained until the 71:34 mark of the second half when Charleston''s Ryan Osborne passed the ball ahead to speedster Dion Peters who sent in the breakaway and go-ahead score to the far post from the close left wing. ODU only mustered three shots the rest of the way as the Golden Eagles finished with a 17-11 shots advantage and 7-3 nod on shots on goal. A well needed week layoff awaits the Panthers who hit the road for a three-game GLIAC road swing, beginning Friday, Oct. 7 with a 4:30 bout against Northwood (Mich.)
