MILWAUKEE, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – For the 11th time in Chancellor’s Cup battles between Milwaukee (3-6-2, 2-3-0 HL) and Green Bay (6-4-1, 2-2-0 HL), it took overtime to decide who owns the right to the coveted cup.

For the third consecutive season, the cup will remain in Green Bay as the Phoenix beat the Panthers 2-1 in double overtime.

“It’s definitely a great win for us, we needed it and the fact we get to keep the cup on top of it, is huge,” said head coach Tom Poitras.

Green Bay got on the board early at the Panthers new Engelmann Field. At the 10:17 mark, Stuart Grable (Neenah, Wis.) served the ball to Sam Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) off a corner kick. Krenzien found JC Banks (Milwaukee, Wis.) with a header pass and Banks flicked it in for his seventh goal of the season and the 1-0 lead.

“JC has had a little bit of a dry spell to start the season and he’s been on fire the past two weeks so it’s probably not good news for our opponents,” said Poitras.

The Phoenix outshot the Panthers 7-5 in the first half, with five on goal.

In the second half, the Panthers found the back of the net in the 57th minute. JC’s cousin, Cody Banks, scored off a slotted pass from Andrew Wiedabach, knotting the game 1-1.

The remainder of regulation was a defensive battle. Milwaukee outshot Green Bay 8-5 while both teams had two corner kicks. Banks led the way with five shots while Scott Raymonds (Brookfield, Wis.) added four. A total of 10 cards were handed out in the first two periods of play.

With time winding down in the second half, Milwaukee committed a foul as time ran out on the Phoenix to fire a shot and send the game into overtime.

In the first overtime period both teams fired two shots while Green Bay keeper Ryan Wehking (St. Louis, Mo.) had one save, as the score remained 1-1.

With 1:52 left in the second overtime period to decide cup ownership, Milwaukee turned the ball over, the keeper stepped out of the goal and JC Banks tapped the ball in for the 2-1 game-winning goal.

“We worked hard to get those two goals and it felt great to score them in front of all my friends and family,” said Banks.

In the contest, Green Bay outshot the Panthers 17-15 and 4-3 on corner kicks. Both keepers had four saves a piece.

Green Bay will continue its five-game road trip and head to UIC (3-7-0, 1-3-0 HL) Saturday, Oct. 16 to battle the flames.
