BETHLEHEM, Pa. — With the 2019 regular season right around the corner, the Patriot League announced its Preseason All-League selections as well as the preseason poll heading into the new year. Lehigh men's soccer was picked third, while two student-athletes, seniors Alex Greene and Zarin Tuten were named to the all-league team before the season kicks off.
While Greene missed the entirety of the 2018 season due to injury, he comes back to Lehigh for his final season looking ready to compete once again and build off 2017, where he was named a First Team All-Patriot League selection. The midfielder scored five goals and tallied four assists for 14 points during his junior campaign and has accumulated 10 goals and nine assists for 29 points throughout his Mountain Hawk career.
"For Alex to be recognized in this way is pretty significant, just because he's been out for a year," said head coach Dean Koski. "So it's certainly nice to know that he hasn't been forgotten."
Tuten had an excellent junior season wearing the Brown and White, named a Second Team All-Patriot League defender by the coaches. Tuten, who played 90 or more minutes in 16 games, anchored the defense and helped goalkeeper Will Smith to a league-leading nine shutouts and only 0.84 goals per game.
"Zarin is coming off a really good junior year both in the fall and in the spring," said Koski. "His consistency has obviously been noted by other coaches in the league."
Lehigh was selected third in the 2019 Patriot League Preseason poll, trailing only defending champion Colgate and Loyola (Md.). The Mountain Hawks finished the 2018 regular season second in the Patriot League, earning a first round bye into the tournament before falling to Colgate in the semifinals at Loyola.
The Mountain Hawks will open up the upcoming season at home against Manhattan on Aug. 30 at 6 p.m.
