PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The George Washington women’s soccer team battled Duquesne to a 0-0 double overtime draw in Atlantic 10 action on Sunday afternoon at the Dukes’ Rooney Field.

Sophomore Kristi Abbate took a season-high nine shots for the Colonials, five of which she put on goal. Senior goalieNicole Ulrick made seven stops to preserve GW’s fifth shutout of the season.

The Dukes held a slight 18-17 advantage in shots while the Colonials put more than half of their attempts on target, forcing Duquesne keeper Ashley Szalwinski to make nine saves.

Jane Wallis had a good look for GW in the 45th minute when she took a free kick from 20 yards out that hit the bottom of the crossbar. In the 51st minute, Abbate fired three straight shots that were all punched out by a leaping Szalwinski.

GW (5-4-4, 2-2-1 A-10) outshot Duquesne (5-6-2, 1-2-1 A-10), 3-2, through two overtime periods. The final attempt of the contest came at 106:49 from junior defender Elizabeth Casey, but the Dukes’ Szalwinski made the save.

GW concludes its three-match road swing on Friday, Oct. 25 at nearby George Mason for the inaugural Revolutionary Rivalry match between the new A-10 foes. Kickoff in Fairfax, Va., is set for 7 p.m.
