Box Score

WASHINGTON – Four different players scored as the George Washington women’s soccer team defeated Delaware State, 5-0, in a non-conference match at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus on Friday evening.

GW dominated on both the offensive and defensive ends as it recorded its seventh shutout of the season, marking the most clean sheets for the Colonials since 2003. Additionally, the five goals were the most scored by the Buff and Blue since Sept. 4, 2011 when GW defeated Robert Morris, 5-1.

The Colonials (6-5-5) applied dominating offensive pressure throughout the match as they posted a season-high 26-4 shot advantage over the Hornets (1-15). 

GW wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into action. Sophomore Kristi Abbate sent the ball from the left side to the top right corner of the box where senior Alex Neal collected the pass and buried a shot to the top right corner of the net. 

The Colonials went up 2-0 just before halftime when the rookie duo of Kate Elson and MacKenzie Cowley connected at the 43:21 mark. Elson settled in front of net and centered the ball to Cowley, who fired the ball to the left side of the goal.

Just over 20 minutes into the second half, sophomore Kyla Ridley collected the ball inside the box, drew out Delaware State keeper Katelyn Koslosky, then slid a pass to the right side to senior Claire Haft who found the back of the net for her first tally of the season. Haft struck again 3:37 later when she carried the ball from the midfield to the top left of the box, dodged a defender and fired a shot past Koslosky. 

Senior Jane Wallis netted the final goal of the game at 78:19. Junior Madison Davis dribbled up right side of the field and sent a lateral pass to the left to Wallis, who scored from 20 yards out.

GW forced Koslosky to make eight saves for the Hornets, while senior goalkeeper Nicole Ulrick set aside one shot for the Colonials to register her seventh shutout of the season.

GW hosts Atlantic 10 foe Richmond on Sunday at 3 p.m. for the Colonials’ regular-season finale and Senior Day match. With a win over Richmond, and pending weekend results from around the league, GW could earn a bid to the A-10 Championship.
