WASHINGTON - Senior Jane Wallis scored in the fifth minute to lift George Washington women's soccer to a 1-0 win over defending Atlantic 10 champion La Salle on a rain-soaked GW Soccer Field at the Mount Vernon Campus on Friday.

With the win, the Colonials improve to 5-2-3 overall and 2-0-0 atop the A-10 standings.  The victory also snapped the Explorers' (9-3-1, 1-1-0 A-10) 19-match regular-season conference unbeaten streak which spanned three seasons back to Oct. 29, 2010.

GW took the 1-0 lead at 4:34 when rookie Lina Proska had a breakaway and sent a short pass from the top of the box to her left to Wallis. The Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., product collected the ball, found her way around a defender and fired a shot into the lower left corner past diving Explorers' goalkeeper Jessica Wiggins. The tally was Wallis' second game-winner in the past three games.

The back line was instrumental in the win as GW denied 18 shot attempts and 13 corner kicks by La Salle on the afternoon. Senior goalkeeper Nicole Ulrick turned away seven shots between the posts to help the Colonials secure their fourth shutout of the season.

The Buff and Blue look to improve to 3-0-0 in the A-10 for the first time since 2010 when GW welcomes Saint Joseph's on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.

Sunday's contest will serve as the Colonials' Kickin' it for a Cure match in support of breast cancer awareness. Members of the GW First Ladies dance team will collect monetary contributions throughout the contest. A donation table will also be set up behind the benches for fans to make pledges and fans are encouraged to dress in pink. Proceeds will benefit the GW Cancer Institute.
