Hamilton men's soccer shuts out Colby
Hennie Bosman '13 and Anthony Balbo '13 scored one goal apiece and Hamilton College blanked Colby College 2-0 in a NESCAC game at Hamilton’s Love Field on Oct. 14.
The Continentals (4-6-2 overall, 2-5-2 NESCAC) defeated Colby for the first time in five meetings. The Mules lost their fourth straight game.
Eric Boole '13 made five saves to post his 11th career shutout and first this year. Brian Whiston '13 added an assist. Balbo has scored 17 goals in his Hamilton career and Bosman has 10.
Cody Funkhouser '15 made one stop and Andrew Meisel '13 led Colby’s offense with four shots. The Mules edged Hamilton 17-15 in shots, and corner kicks were even at three apiece.
Hamilton got on the scoreboard on a nice give-and-go 7 minutes, 20 seconds into the first half. Bosman passed the ball to Whiston, who gave it right back to him. Bosman then fired a shot from the top of the box past Funkhouser. The Continentals led 1-0 at the break.
Colby (3-6-2, 0-5-2) had its best opportunity in the 73rd minute when a shot by Matt Giron '16 was punched over the goal by a leaping Boole.
The Continentals tacked on an insurance goal with 4:35 left in the second half on Balbo’s team-leading sixth goal. Balbo received a pass from Bosman, dribbled past a defender and sent a low, hard shot across his body and by a diving Funkhouser.
Hamilton travels to Tufts University on Saturday, Oct. 20, for the Continentals' final NESCAC game of the year. Colby hosts nationally ranked Williams College in conference action on Saturday.
