Hanlin’s Winner Sends [8] Denver Past Omaha

October 17, 2015

Denver 1-0 Omaha (Hanlin 101’)

DENVER – Junior Karsten Hanlin (Centennial, Colo.) knocked home his fourth goal of the season off a redshirt-junior Reagan Dunk (Dallas, Texas) 101st minute assist taking Denver past Omaha 1-0 on Saturday night at CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. Saturday night’s win moved the nation’s longest home unbeaten streak to 26 matches, and with other results of today, Denver is now one of two teams in the nation still unbeaten (Creighton).

“I think any time that you play an Omaha team, you’re going to get a tough, physical game,” head coach Jamie Franks said. “Our main thing was just making sure that we stayed focused on the game plan and that we stayed disciplined in our shape. We tweaked some things tactically that made the game a little bit easier for us, but at the same time, I  think we could have made the game even easier on ourselves. We didn’t have our best game tonight, and when we go back and look at the film, I think there’s going to be some times that we’re disappointed. Overall we got the shutout and more importantly we got the result.”

Denver doubled-up its guests in shots on Saturday night by a count of 18-9, including 12-4 after the intermission.

Freshman Kenny Akamatsu (Niigata, Japan) started the buildup down the right, getting the ball over to Dunk. The Dallas native’s initial ball in was deflected, but the persistent right back eventually got the ball to the feet of Hanlin, who finished to the left side of the net from 12 yards out.

Redshirt-senior goalkeeper Dan Jackson (Chapel Hill, N.C.) made four saves, all in the first half.
