TIFFIN - Going into the match against 4th-ranked Kenyon College, the Heidelberg University men's soccer team knew they would have to come focused, and they gave the Lords all they could handle despite playing with 10 men the majority of the 2nd half.  Chris Koczak found the back of the net in the 77th minute, but the Student Princes were unable to find the equalizer before time expired.

The match opened up with the Lords controlling most of the possession.  The Heidelberg defense kept the match scoreless until Kenyon sophomore Josh Lee put back his own rebound to give the Lords the 1-0 advantage in the 23rd minute.

A lot of physical play dominated the first half as there were 17 total fouls and three yellow cards, all against the Student Princes.

The second half picked up where the first left off, as the play heated up when Kyle Boone received his second yellow card of the match in the 56th minute, leaving Heidelberg to play the remainder of the game with just 10 players.

Kenyon carried that momentum to their second goal of the match when sophomore Tony Amolo scored his 6th goal of the season, moving the score to 2-0 in favor of the Lords.

Heidelberg put forth a valiant effort from there on out, battling while playing down a man, and that effort paid off when Hamid Shariff found an open Coczak in the box to pull the Student Princes within one with just under 13 minutes to play.  This goal was the first allowed by Kenyon on the young season.

The 'Berg put together a couple more opportunites late, but they were not able to break through the Lords' defense, falling by a final score of 2-1.

Andres Isea and Tyler Eoff led the Heidelberg offense with three shots apiece, while Shariff recorded the lone assist.

Defensively, Matthew Stevens recorded nine saves out of the 26 shots taken by Kenyon.

The match ended with 26 total fouls and five cards, four against Heidelberg and one against the Lords.

"I think that we had Kenyon rattled, getting the goal back and pushing for the equalizer and if we would have had 11, it could have been a different result" said Heidelberg head coach Brian Haley.  "Having said that, the performance was good, Kenyon is a solid squad, and I think on a different day we could get a different result.  I have no hesitation in saying that our performance today was excellent at times."

Kenyon remains unbeaten on the season at 4-0 while the Student Princes fall to 2-1-1, taking their first defeat of the season.  Heidelberg will be back in action on Wednesday, September 10 when they take to the road to face The College of Wooster.  That match is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
