Hempstead, N.Y.  - Sophomore Maid Memic scored in the seventh minute and senior goalkeeper Adam Janowski posted his second consecutive shutout as Hofstra defeated Towson, 1-0, in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup on Wednesday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

Hofstra won its third straight game overall- and third consecutive conference contest-to improve to 9-3-1 and 3-2 in CAA play. Towson fell to 4-6-1 and 2-2-1 against the league.

Memic scored his team-leading sixth goal, heading in junior Chris Griebsch's cross near the left post off the game's opening shot at 6:33. Memic (Kozarac, Bosnia) leads Hofstra with 16 points. Griebsch (Dessau-Rosslau, Germany) is right behind Memic with 15 points and has at least one point in four straight games.

Janowski (Coram, N.Y.) made both of his saves in the first half to register back-to-back clean sheets. After blanking Georgia State for his first career shutout in the previous game, Janowski stopped on-target attempts from C.J. Corey and Matteo Vertucci to improve to 6-2 on the season.

Hofstra built a 16-9 shot advantage. The Pride did not allow an on-target shot in the second half. A defense consisting of juniors Shaun Foster (Southport, England), Tyler Botte (North Babylon, N.Y.) and senior A.J. Laza(Coram, N.Y.) provided tight coverage in front of the net with Janowski cleaning up to help the Pride record their fourth team shutout of the campaign.

Freshman Felix Schaefer (Aschaffenburg, Germany) played on the back line to help compensate for the loss of injured defender Thomas Bekas (Bay Shore, N.Y.). Senior Stephan Barea (Levittown, N.Y.) also played well in providing pressure.

Offensively, Griebsch registered a game-high five shots, including two on-net. Towson goalkeeper Felix Petermann made five saves-including four in the second half-to give the Tigers a chance to come back. The Pride tested Petermann, with Memic logging four shots and senior Mike Annarumma (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) blasting three shots.

Hofstra improved to 5-1 at home this season. The Pride will next be in action on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Northeastern with a 6 p.m. start.
