WORCESTER, Mass. – With the game tied at 1-1 at 37:59 of the first half, Robbie McLarney scored the game-winning goal for the Bobcats on a penalty kick as the Holy Cross men's soccer team fell to Quinnipiac, 2-1, at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium on Thursday night. With the loss, the Crusaders start the season 0-1 overall, while the Bobcats improve to 1-1 overall.

Quinnipiac took a 1-0 lead at 13:14 of the first half when William Daniels scored his second goal of the season. Daniels sent the ball to the lower right corner of net off a through pass from Philip Suprise. At 17:25, the Crusaders responded with a goal by junior Josh Cintas (San Diego, Calif.) to tie the contest at 1-1. Junior Tommy Uttaro (Staten Island, N.Y.) sent a cross that deflected off a Quinnipiac defender to Cintas who then fired a shot to lower left corner of net from six yards out for his second career goal. At the 22:00 mark the Crusaders just missed taking the lead when Cintas blasted a free kick to the upper right corner of the goal that was tipped over the net by Quinnipiac goalie Borja Angoitia. At 37:59, the Crusaders were called for a foul in the penalty box, and McLarney took advantage and found the back of the net on the penalty kick. The Bobcats outshot the Crusaders by a 7-4 margin in total shots for the half, but Holy Cross took three shots on goal and Quinnipiac had two.

At the 57:30 mark, Suprise fired a shot to the upper left corner of the goal that was saved by Holy Cross sophomore goalie Michael Thompson (Cromwell, Conn.) to keep the score at 2-1. After a yellow card on Quinnipiac's Erik Panzer on a foul just outside of the left corner of the penalty box, junior Monty Sanders (Temecula, Calif.) curved a free kick to the goal that was caught by Angoitia at 73:05. Quinnipiac was able to keep its one-goal lead for the 2-1 victory.

Thompson made two saves for the Crusaders, while Angoitia posted three to earn the win. The Bobcats outshot the Crusaders, 14-7, while Quinnipiac took five shots on goal and Holy Cross tallied four. The Crusaders had three corner kicks and the Bobcats took two.

The Crusaders return to action when they travel to Hanover, N.H., to meet Dartmouth on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 3:00 p.m.
