Holy Cross Men's Soccer Battles To 0-0 Double Overtime Tie With Dartmouth

WORCESTER, Mass. – A total of 23 shots were taken but no goals scored as the Holy Cross men’s soccer team tied Dartmouth, 0-0, for the first time in the series history at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. With the decision, Holy Cross moves to a record of 0-1-1, while Dartmouth opens up its season at 0-0-1. The Crusaders combined for nine shots in the 110 minute affair, including four on-goal. The two teams played to a scoreless first half as each team tallied three shots. Holy Cross added five shots in the second half while Dartmouth put together six shots. No goals were scored as the teams went into overtime tied 0-0. The Crusaders made one final shot in the first overtime period as the two teams remained in a physical defensive battle in the two overtime sessions, finishing with no goals and tying 0-0. Three Crusaders notched team-highs of two shots, including junior Pat McCann (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), and sophomores Monty Sanders (Temecula, Calif.) and Kevin O’Connell (Basking Ridge, N.J.). Holy Cross goalkeeper, freshman Michael Thompson (Cromwell, Conn.) registers a record of 0-1-1 on the season after earning his first career shutout. He mad two saves in all. Dartmouth goalkeeper, sophomore Noah Cohen, finished the game with four saves and tallies a record of 0-0-1 on the season. Dartmouth totaled 14 shots, two on-goal in the 110 minutes of play. Holy Cross returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 6 against Sacred Heart at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. The contest will wrap up a three-game home stand for the Crusaders and begins at 7:00 p.m.
