Indiana University Women's Soccer Head Coach Mick Lyon enters his 10th season as IU head coach on Friday when the Hoosiers welcome the Evansville Purple Aces to Armstrong Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff. Then on Sunday (Aug. 21), the Hoosiers welcome the Butler Bulldogs to Armstrong Stadium for a 1:00 p.m. matinee. Prior to the match against Butler, the IU staff will host a "Youth Soccer Clinic" on the field. Those in attendance will receive instruction from members of the IU coaching staff and will also be able to join the teams on the field for starting lineups. RECORD VS. OPPONENTS

After a 3-0 victory last year in Evansville, the Hoosiers carry a 4-0-0 record against the Purple Aces into this season's contest.

Last season also saw the Hoosiers score a season-best six goals at Butler en route to a 6-0 shutout. IU holds a 10-6-1 edge in the all-time series with the Bulldogs.

GETTING A GOOD START

The Hoosiers are 11-6-1 all-time in regular season openers and have won their last two. It will mark the second time in as many seasons that Indiana and Evansville will meet to get the season underway. And in regular season home openers, IU has an all-time ledger of 10-3 with the last win coming in 2009 against Wright State at Armstrong Stadium.

YOUNG AND OLD

When the Hoosiers take the field to open the season, they will have solid mix of youth and veteran players. With nine true freshmen joining the fold and five redshirt freshmen from last year, that gives head coach Mick Lyon 14 newcomers to mix in with 15 returning players from the 2010 squad.

GLOBAL EXPERIENCE

Orianica Velasquez, a junior forward for the Hoosiers, made one of her dreams come true during the summer of 2011. She joined her teammates on the Colombian Women's National team in Germany for their first-ever appearance in the FIFA Women's World Cup.

Velasquez did not play in the first contest of pool play but came on as a substitute in the second match against the United States and nearly tallied a goal just seconds after entering the field of play. She then started the final game of the tournament against North Korea and played all 90 minutes on her way to being named "Player of the Match" by FIFA.
