Hope Falls at Calvin In MIAA Title Showdown
The Hope women’s soccer team lost at Calvin 1-0 on Monday in a match that determined the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular-season champion.
The Flying Dutch (15-3-1 overall) had their seven-match win streak ended. They finished MIAA play with a 12-3-1 mark and await the outcome of tonight’s Alma at Kalamazoo match to see if they will be the second or third seed in the upcoming league tournament.
The MIAA Tournament semifinals are Thursday. If Alma loses to Kalamazoo, Hope will be the No. 2 seed and host Alma at a time to be determined. If Alma wins tonight, it will host the Flying Dutch.
Against Calvin, Hope goalie Kat Dickson of Grayslake, Ill. (Grayslake Central HS) made four saves in 90 minutes of play.
The Knights (16-2-2 overall) scored in 29th minute.
Hope outshot Calvin by a 7-5 margin.
