Hope Women's Soccer Edges Adrian 2-1 At Home
Two second-half goals powered the Hope women's soccer team to a 2-1 win against visiting Adrian College on Saturday.
Midfielder Erin Jipping and forward Lindsey Bieri scored within a 14-minute span at Van Andel Soccer Stadium to help the Flying Dutch (10-2-1 overall) solidify their place in the top half of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings.
Bieri, a junior from Holland (Holland Christian HS), snapped a 1-1 tie in the 69th minute with a shot from five yards out. Junior Nora Kirk of Maumee, Ohio, had the assist. It was Bieri's second goal of the season.
Jipping, a junior from Holland (West Ottawa HS), recorded her fourth goal of the season in the 56th minute for a 1-0 lead. She scored from six yards out thanks to an assist from junior Maria DeShaw of Holland (West Ottawa HS). Adrian tied the score at 1-1 five minutes later.
Junior goalie Kat Dickson of Grayslake, Ill., (Grayslake Central HS), earned the win by recording two saves. Hope outshot Adrian (8-5, 6-4 MIAA) by a 28-7 margin.
The Flying Dutch are third in the MIAA standings with 22 points and a 7-2-1 league record. They lead fourth-place Adrian by four points and trail second-place Alma by one point. Calvin is in first with 25 points.
