Eight sign national letters of intent with Alabama State women’s soccer

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Eight outstanding high school seniors, from five different states, have signed national letters of intent to Alabama State, Lady Hornets women's soccer coach Jodie Smith announced today. Two of the student-athletes attended high school in the state of Colorado, Florida and Georgia, and one each in Alabama and California.
 
Alabama State is coming off an 11-10-1 record last season and its first-ever Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament Championship. The Lady Hornets concluded the season in the NCAA Division I Tournament against No. 1 South Carolina.

Played at William C. Hinkley High School in Westminster, Colo…A four-year member of the Honor Roll…As a senior earned National Honor Society recognition…A member of the student council…A 2013-14 EMAC Player of the Year…Also earned letters in basketball and track & field…Helped guide the Thunderbirds to the 2015-16 league championship in track & field…Statistically first in goals and ninth in assists in Colorado 5A girls soccer…Named the EMAC Conference Player of the Year (2015), EMAC Conference First Team (2015) and All City in Aurora (2015)…Played club soccer for Real National Colorado.
 
Smith Quote: A crafty target player that gets all of the attacking players involved in the offensive third. She will bring a lot of vision and distribution in front of goal.

Played at Childersburg High School in Childersburg, Ala…A member of FCLA and FBLA…Played club soccer in the Birmingham United Soccer Association…A three-year all-county selection and a two-year team most valuable player…Led team in goals scored for two straight years.
 
Smith Quote: A great one-versus-one forward that loves to get behind the defense. Her speed will be a problem for our opponents.
 
McKenna Lupori            MF        5-1        Stone Mountain, Ga.        Parkview HS
Played all four years and attended Parkview High School in Stone Mountain, Ga.…A three-year Honor Roll member…Played club soccer for GSA and ECNL…Biggest thrill was scoring in a rivalry game last season…A 11th grade scholar athlete…The GSA ECNL under—18 team leading goal scorer and assist leader in 2016…Helped guide the Panthers to the 6A Region 8 championship…A 2016 Region 8 First Team selection.
 
Smith Quote: I look for her to play in the defensive midfield role. She does a great job of holding the ball in possession, as well as organizing the midfield.
 
Kayla Mckenzie-Edmonds    MF    5-6        Delray Beach, Fla.     American Heritage 
Played at American Heritage School in Delray Beach, Fla…Academic French honor society member in the 10th grade with 3.7 GPA…Played club soccer for Wellington Wave 99G White for eight years…A three-year captain, helped lead Stallions to the 2015 district championship…An All-Area First Team selection.
 
Smith Quote: She can play anywhere across the back line. She is a composed player that reads the game very well and is great in the air.

Played at Linfield Christian in Temecula, Calif…A member of the High Honor Roll, Honor Roll and National Honor Society…Played for Arsenal FC of the Elite Club National League…Traveled to showcases in Las Vegas, San Diego and New Jersey…Won two league titles.
 
Smith Quote: She is a tremendous goal scorer. Every time we watched her play was scoring goals. I look for her to contribute on a very talented front line we have returning.

Smith Quote: A wide player that looks to attack down the line. Expect her to play either as a winger or outside back.

Played four years at Lakeland Collegiate High School in Mulberry, Fla…Member of the math and interact club…A freshman honor roll student…Played club soccer for the West Florida Flames and the Lakeland Futbol Club…Biggest thrill was Dec. 12, 2016 and scoring 100th career high school goal…Named first team all-county as a sophomore and second team all-county as a freshman and junior…Finished prep career with 111 goal and 11 assists.
 
Smith Quote: A tall forward that can either play as a target or winger. She is good at holding the ball, as well as, getting good service into the area.

Played at Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo…Played club soccer for Real Colorado National in the Elite Club National League…Also played field hockey…Named Academic All-State in field hockey and soccer…A state finalist during senior season…Helped guide Real Colorado National to a 2012 State Cup Championship…A United States Soccer training Center Invitee.
 
Smith Quote: She is a talented defender that really likes to get forward out of the back. This should help us be more dynamic offensively.
