Soccer '15 schedule released

The 2015 Alabama State women's soccer schedule has been officially released and the slate of games offers some match ups of renewed rivalries, a few against opponents never faced before in the history of the school, a historic trip out west and a heavy conference schedule down the stretch.

"This is the most challenging schedule that I have put together since I have been here at ASU," said Alabama State women's soccer coach Jodie Smith

"We have a great assortment of teams from great conferences.  There are some familiar foes as well as teams we have never faced before, highlighted by our trip out west to face Northern Arizona and Grand Canyon University.  This is the first trip outside of the Southeast in the program's history."

In rematches from last season, the nonconference schedule will feature matches with Troy (home at 7 p.m. on Aug. 25), USC-Upstate (away at 7 p.m./ 6 CT on Aug. 28), Georgia Southern (home at 5 p.m. on Sept. 11) and Jacksonville State (away at 1 p.m. on Sept. 13).

First time meetings with opponents include Georgia State (home at 6 p.m. on Aug. 21), Northern Arizona (away at 9 p.m. CT/ 8 MTN on Sept. 4), Grand Canyon (away at 2 p.m. CT/ 1 MTN on Sept. 6), and Austin Peay (away at 2 p.m. on Sept. 20).

"We are really looking forward to the trip to Arizona," Smith said.  "It will be a great team experience as well as playing two challenging teams."

"This will be my ninth year at ASU and each year I have tried to play a schedule that challenges us as a team.  And, as the program has grown, so has the quality of competition that we have been able to play against."

The regular season will conclude with 10 consecutive matches against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponents.

The Lady Hornets will play each SWAC opponent once through the regular season.

"Our conference continues to improve, so it will certainly be a challenge for us to prepare and be ready each week as we navigate our way through the season," Smith added.
