DOVER, Del. – The Delaware State University women’s soccer team kicked off the 2012 campaign Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 loss to Manhattan at Alumni Stadium.

Senior Kelsey Gibson (Elizabethtown, N.Y.) saw two great looks at the net, but each ended up being Kara Davis’ lone saves of the day for Manhattan.

Fellow seniors Candace Wyre (Smyrna, Del.) and Jeanette Salgado (Bergenfield, N.J.) also got off shots on the day.

Sophomore goalkeeper Katelyn Koslosky (East Islip, N.Y.) collected five saves in 90:00 minutes of play in the loss.

In the 26th minute, Jasper freshman Emily Ude slipped the ball by Koslosky from five feet out to give Manhattan a 1-0 advantage.  Allison Pfeiffer was credited with the assist.

The Hornet defenders kept things close until the end, when freshman Tiffanie McIntosh put the Jaspers up 2-0 with a rocket from 10 feet to the center of the net in the 75th minute.

Manhattan (1-1) outshot Delaware State (0-1) 11-5 in the game.  The two teams each recorded three corner kicks.

The Hornets next travel to Teaneck, N.J. to take on Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday at 7 p.m.  Live stats will be available through www.DSUHornets.com
