HORNETS GEAR UP FOR SEASON OPENER

August 23, 2013
With only a day away from their first match, the Alabama State soccer team makes final preparations to face in-state rival Troy Friday, August 23 in Montgomery, Ala. at the ASUSoccer Complex.

Admission to all home matches is free. Updates on the match and ASU Soccer can be found at Twitter (twitter.com/asubuzz) and Facebook (facebook.com/asubuzz).

"We've covered all the areas we felt like we needed to address, it now gives us a chance to see where we stand" stated Head coach Jodie Smith when asked about his feelings leading into the season opener. "It hurts that we didn't get an opportunity to play our exhibition game due to inclement weather, it would have given us a chance to see what adjustments needed to have been made".

The Lady Hornets ended last season with a 7-9-2 record and advancing to the SWAC Tournament only to lose to Prairie View A&M. ASU finished fourth in the Eastern Division and eighth in the conference with a 2-2 record.

After announcing the football and basketball championships moving to Houston, Texas, the SWAC relocated its soccer tournament to the city. The 2013 Soccer Tournament will be held at the Houston Amateur Sports Park from November 7 – 10. The SWAC held its soccer tournament the past two seasons at the Johnny Downs Soccer Complex in Alexandria, La.

When asked about his thoughts on the move to Houston Coach Smith seemed pretty enthused, "It's going to be in a great venue and a great experience for the team. Our focus is on making sure that we qualify so that we do get a chance to play in the tournament"
