MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Former Alabama State women's soccer standout Ariela Lewisrecently signed professionally to play overseas to play for Skövde KIK in Sweden.

Lewis, who just recently finished a year playing in Seattle, will move to Sweden and play in Sweden's Norra Götaland League – a Division I league. She will head overseas in April for a 90-day trial with the Swedish team before returning home, and finish out the season from August through October.

She is one of three Division I players from the United States who will make the trip over in April.

"This is literally the happiest day of my life," Lewis said. "To finally say I made it, to say I achieved my dreams."

This past year, Lewis helped lead the Seattle Stars FC to the Northwest Premier League championship for the second consecutive year, and was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week for the week of June 10. She led the team in the regular season with six goals scored, the second-highest total in the league.

While at Alabama State, Lewis led the Lady Hornets to back-to-back Southwestern Athletic Conference championships. She was also a two-time SWAC Offensive Player of the Year award winner, and during her senior season led the NCAA as the active leader in goals and points scored.
