Hornets Set Records In Home Win

The Alabama State University soccer team defeated USC-Beaufort 7-1 Sunday afternoon at the ASU Soccer Complex. ASU set a season best for most points collected, most goals scored and most assist in a game.

"It's nice to get back in the win column. It was a good team win." head coach Jodie Smith said. "It was nice to see the team put together a convincing win before entering conference play on next Friday against Alcorn State"

The Lady Hornets (4-5) scored in the opening two minutes of the contest, when freshmen forward Aaliyah Lewis knocked in a pass from her twin Ariela Lewis. In the 19th minute USC-Beaufort responded with a goal by Pascale Rocca off an assist from Jessica Tooley. Ariela Lewis scored a goal in the 24th & 34th minute to give the Lady Hornets a 3-1 lead going into the half.

In the second period, ASU came out on the offensive with two more goals from Aaliyah Lewis in the 47th & 59th minute with the second goal coming off an assist from Anastasia McCleary to give the Hornets a 5-1 Advantage. Helma Von Zadow scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Alexandria CannonAlayna Smith scored her second goal of the season in the 73rd minute.

"She is doing the things we expected her to do, this is why we brought her here." Coach Smith stated, of Aaliyah Lewis Hat Trick in today's match. "She is getting good looks and we're feeding her the ball which she is making teams pay for."

Goalkeeper's Kylee Hathaway & Courtney Ledonne split duties today. Hathaway grabbed three saves in the first period, while Ledonne grabbed three in the second.

The Lady Hornets will host in-state foe Talladega College at the ASU Soccer Complex Wednesday, October 2. The match is set for 7 p.m. This is the Lady Hornets last match before hitting the road to open conference play.
