Hornets Sign 4 On Signing Day

November 12, 2020

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State head women's soccer coach Jodie Smith welcomed four members for the 2021 season on National Signing Day Wednesday.

"This has been a difficult year in recruiting due to the NCAA Dead Period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic," Smith said. "As a staff we are really pleased with this incoming group we were able to put together. We were able to address definite needs as we continue to grow as a program, and I feel like each one of the signees can come in and make an immediate impact."

Brooklyn Broderick signed with the Lady Hornets from Kannapolis (N.C.) and Northwest Cabarrus High School as midfielder. She also traveled the East Coast, and also played in the ECNL Grier showcase in Florida (2018) and the ECNL Texas (2018) during her career. During her freshman season, she scored 18 goals, while adding another 24 during her sophomore season. Although her junior season was cut short after five games due to the pandemic, she scored 12 goals – losing just one game in conference play in three years and winning the conference championship (2019). Since 2020, she has led the team in most goals and assists and was named Freshman of the Year.

"Brooklyn is a technically gifted player that can play both in the midfield and as a forward," Smith said. "She has great vision in the final third around the goal."

Madison Chambers comes to Alabama State from the Olympia Warriors in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia as a forward. Last season, she competed at Women's Super League (Premiers) and the Women's Statewide Cup for the Warriors, while also competing in the Southern SATIS as the captain for Guilford Young College – winning the 2020 Australian Olympic Change-Maker Program. During the 2019 season, she was the captain of the Tasmania team that competed in the U17 NTC Challenge; while also competing in the Women's Super League and Women's Statewide Cup. She also competed in the Southern SATIS as a captain for Guilford Young College. During the 2019 season, Chambers won multiple awards including the Players MVP Award in the Women's Super League, the TFC (Media) WSL Player of the Year, the Tasmanian Player of the Tournament at the FFT U17 NTC Challenge and was the leading goal scorer.

"Madison is the second Tasmanian player for Alabama State," Smith said. "I really love her ability to play as a wide player up and down the sidelines as a wing for us. She has a real knack for the goal and being in the right place."

Zariya Holt signed with the Lady Hornets from Douglasville (Penn.) and Berks Catholic High School as a forward. Holt is a four-year letterwinner in soccer, where she was the team captain during her junior and senior seasons, and also lettered three years in basketball. Holt was the team's second-leading scorer and broke the school freshmen record for goals scored and was the team's leading scorer as a sophomore earning All-Division honors. During her junior and senior seasons, Holt was the team's leading scorer and earned All-Berks Team 2 and All-Division honors. She scored double figure goals all four years of her high school career. During her club career, she also helped her FCP Providence Lightning team to the Bethesda Premier Cup Girls Championship (2019) and the Penn Fusion Winter Showcase Championship (2019).

"She is a big, strong forward with the ability to hold off players and go aggressively toward the goal," Smith said. "I am looking for her to be a major part of our front line for the next four years."

Camilia Jimenez signed with Alabama State as midfielder from Weston (Fla.) and Cypress Bay High School. She was named Second Team All-Broward County during her first year playing varsity soccer and was the team's third-leading scorer with 16 goals and 10 assists. She also helped Cypress Bay win districts and regionals (2019-20), while also playing for the Weston FC U16 Pre-Academy team that participated in the NPL Nationals in Colorado. She was part of the 2019-20 Cypress Bay team that were unbeaten and finished as state runner-up.

"She is one of the craftiest players we have had in our program," Smith said. "She has the ability to take on players and get out of tough situations, along with great vision to find teammates in dangerous spots on the field."
