Lady Hornets continue run in conference play, remaining unbeaten after pair of second half goals

JACKSON, Miss. | Alabama State remains unbeaten in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play after a pair of second half goals in a 2-1 road win over Jackson State Sunday afternoon.

"It is nice to come home with three points," Alabama State head coach Jodie Smith said. "The team's work rate today was fantastic with both goals coming from effort and desire. We are looking forward to returning home and honoring our seniors this weekend against Alcorn State."

After a scoreless first half, Alabama State (2-2-1, 2-0-1 SWAC) struck first when Janae Brown scored in the 48th minute to put the Lady Hornets up 1-0. They would add another goal in the 87th minute on a McKenna Wiscombe goal to go up 2-0, before Jackson State used a goal off the foot of Tanagna Payne to narrow the margin to 2-1 before time ran out on the Tigers.

The Lady Hornets scored the two goals on four shots, while Madison Roop recorded six saves in goal for Alabama State.

Alabama State returns home Friday to face Mississippi Valley State at 6 pm, followed by Alcorn State on Sunday at 1 pm at the ASU Soccer Complex.
