Hornets Sweep SWAC Weekly Honors

The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama State's Aaliyah LewisEmily Ziolkowski, and Kylee Hathaway as SWAC Soccer Players of the Week for September 3, 2012.

Hathaway was tabbed Goalkeeper of the Week for the second consecutive week, while Offensive Player of the Week was credited to Lewis. Lewis was also awarded Player of the Week by College Sports Madness for the second time this season. Emily Ziolkowski earned her first Defensive Player of the Week nomination.

This is Hathaway's second consecutive Goalkeeper of the Week Honor. Hathaway was credited with her third win on the season this past week. ASU notched a (3-2) double overtime victory against Tennessee Tech before defeating, Chattanooga 3-2 on Sunday. She tallied a total of 15 saves over the weekend. (9 vs. Tennessee Tech and 6 vs. Chattanooga).

Lewis, a starter for the Lady Hornets and has already played 281 minutes of action on the season. She currently leads the SWAC and team in points (7), shots (14) and assists (3). Last week, Lewis recorded a game high seven shots, including six on goal, four points while scoring twice during the match against Tennessee Tech.

During last week's competition, Ziolkowski was a starting defender for the Lady Hornets in all contests played. She helped ASU earn the program's first three-game win streak after capturing identical 3-2 victories against Tennessee Tech (8/30) and Chattanooga (9/1).

"It's always nice to have your players recognized! It shows that we have had a successful weekend!" Stated Head Coach Jodie Smith, when asked about sweeping SWAC Player of the Week Honors. "All three have definitely played a major role in team's early success! As a team we are going to need them to continue to playing at a high level."
