Illini Soccer Drops Friday Match at TCU
FORT WORTH, Texas – Fighting Illini Soccer fell to 2-3-0 on the season Friday, Sept. 2, in a 2-1 loss at TCU. Illini redshirt senior Taylore Peterson scored her first goal of the season in the match, tying the game early in the second half. Senior Allison Stucky led the Orange and Blue with a season high five shots on the night, while Peterson fired three shots in the match.
TCU took an early lead on Friday night, netting a goal in just the second minute of play. The Illini looked to retaliate, as both Patricia George and Taylore Peterson fired at the TCU goal before the Horned Frogs were able to get another shot off. Illinois fired five shots in the first half, but TCU led with eight first-half shots.
The Orange and Blue worked to take control of the game right away in the second half.Reagan Robishaw put a shot on goal within the first minute of play, and Alia Abu-Doulehtook another shot not long after. The Illini fired six shots to TCU's one in a span of just 10 minutes. Taylore Peterson netted the equalizer in the 56th minute of play, firing a shot from the top of the penalty box. The goal marks the fourth of her career and her first this season.
Illinois was dominant in the second half, taking 16 shots while putting six on frame. UI held TCU to just five shots in the second half, and did not allow a Horned Frog corner kick in the match. Despite the second-half dominance, TCU capitalized on a penalty kick in the 73rdminute that would be the game-winner.
Senior goalkeeper Claire Wheatley earned the start for the Illini in her home state of Texas, grabbing three saves in the match. Wheatley falls to 0-1-0 this season.
