Indiana men announce 2012 recruits

February 10, 2012
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University head men’s soccer coach Todd Yeagley announced today that Richard Ballard (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual), Derek Creviston (Atlanta, Ga./Milton), Alex Hadley (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll/Cincinnati), Femi Hollinger-Janzen (Goshen, Ind./Bethany Christian), Zach Martin (Avon Lake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) and Andrew Oliver (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) will continue their soccer careers with the Hoosiers in 2012.

“We are very excited about our incoming class,” Yeagley said. “Our specific positional needs have been met and we have players who are capable of making an immediate impact next fall.

“This group possesses the qualities that will continue to help us pursue championship success.”

Ballard tallied 21 goals and 24 assists his senior season at DuPont Manual High School. He was a first-team all-state honoree and an all-region selection. Ballard served as team captain and was named team MVP and Best Offensive Player. In 2011 the Crimsons won the District 12 title. Ballard plays his club ball at Mockingbird Valley Soccer Club, coached by former Hoosier John Michael Hayden.

Creviston plays his club ball with Concorde Fire of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, where he led the team to two state titles. Creviston was named to the 2010 Disney Soccer Showcase All-Star team where he traveled to the Chelsea Football Academy near London, competing against a variety of elite international youth soccer teams. Creviston also traveled to Costa Rica on an ODP Region III trip and took part in the adidas Elite Soccer Program as one of the country’s top high school prospects. At Milton High School he helped lead the team to a regional championship and state semi-finalist berth.

Hadley is currently enrolled at IU and comes to Indiana after two seasons at the University of Cincinnati. In 2011 he started all 18 matches at defender, tallying six shots. As a freshman he started all 19 matches, tallying a game-winning goal against Rutgers to earn BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors. That season he helped the Bearcats to a No. 9 ranking nationally in goals-against average, holding opponents to 14 goals in 19 matches for a 0.68 GAA.

Hollinger-Janzen comes in as one of the most highly decorated players in the state of Indiana. He was named the 2011 Indiana Player of the Year and was an NSCAA All-American and first-team all-state honoree. In 2011 Bethany Christian was the semi state runner-up and finished the year ranked No. 3 in the IA division. Hollinger-Janzen is the two-time Hoosier Soccer Conference MVP and a three-time first-team all-conference selection. He tallied 67 goals and 23 assists over his high school career and scored the game-winning goal for the West team at the 2011 High School All-America Game.

Martin is a three-year starter at defender for Saint Ignatius, earning first-team All-Greater Cleveland honors in 2011. Over the last three seasons he helped the Wildcats to a record of 67-2, with Division I state titles in 2010 and 2011. A member of the ESPN Rise starting 11 for the state of Ohio, Martin served as team captain this past season and is a four-time Scholastic first-team honoree. Martin plays with the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Cleveland Internationals, where he is a four-year starter and serves as team captain.

Oliver is an NSCAA All-American and was a member of the U-17 National Team. He was the Golden Boot winner at the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 tournament in Jamaica, leading the squad with four goals en route to the tournament title. Based on his play with the U-17s, Oliver was invited to train with Liverpool FC last summer. An Indiana native, he grew up playing his club ball with Westside FC.
