Indiana Suffers 3-0 Loss at Ohio State To Close Season

October 30, 2011

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In the final game of the season for the Indiana Hoosiers, they traveled to Ohio State to take on the Buckeyes, who were playing for a seed in the Big Ten Tournament. The Buckeyes scored a pair of first half goals and the Hoosiers were not able to recover in the second half and went on to suffer a 3-0 loss.

“We did some good things again today but we also made some mistakes that led directly to goals for the other team,” Lyon said. “And at this level of soccer, you have to minimize your mistakes and not allow them to hurt you and we have not been able to do that here lately.”

Orianica Velasquez had two shots for the Hoosiers (6-12-1, 2-9 Big Ten) while Lara Ross and Abby Smith both had one shot to account for all four shots in the contest for IU.

In goal, senior Lindsay Campbell gave up three goals in 55 minutes of action while also making three saves before sophomore Shannon Flower came on to play the final 35 minutes and she made one save. The three saves for Campbell gives her 168 in her career to put her in fourth place on the career saves list at Indiana.

Although she did not get the win in the game against the Buckeyes, the 17 career wins are fifth in IU lore for Campbell in goal while her 1.26 GAA is the sixth-best all-time at IU.

The Buckeyes (10-8-1, 5-5-1 Big Ten) held an 18-4 edge in shots in the game and drew four corner kicks to three for Indiana.

Tiffany Cameron scored the first goal of the game in the 28th minute and then Caitlyn Martin tallied her first goal of the season with less than three minutes left in the first half.  Then in the 55th minute, Kendyl Reed put home her first marker of the season for the final goal of the game.

It was the final game for six seniors on the Indiana roster – Kirsta Kellin, Kaylin Clow, Devon Beach, Lindsay Campbell, Kerri Krawczak and Carly Samp.

Samp closes her career with 18 career goals to tie for sixth on the career list at IU while her 49 points are fifth in school history.
