AMBLER, PA - The Iona College women’s soccer team dropped an evenly matched non-conference outing to Temple 1-0 on Friday afternoon at the Ambler Soccer Field.

Temple (2-3-1) scored the contests only marker in the 19th minute of play from Morgyn Seigfried. The assist was credited to Paula Jurewicz.

The Owls finished the contest with an 11-9 edge in shots, but the Gaels held together firing off six on target. Both squads finished with two corners each, with junior netminder Trista Rivera making six stops.

Temple goalie Shauni Kerkhoff also made six saves in the shutout.

Junior Sofia Sanchez led the Gaels with two shots on goal and came close to scoring right before Temple added the lone goal.

Early in the second half, The Gaels had an opportunity to tie the score, but a high shot by sophomore Taylor Boughner knocked off the crossbar and was eventually cleared.

The Gaels then had another chance late in the contest as Sanchez sent a nicely placed corner kick into the box, but a save by Kerkhoff was made on sophomore Natalie Murphy halting the Iona comeback.

Iona (1-3-1) will remain in the Philadelphia area and will take on Saint Joseph’s on Sunday at 4 p.m.
