MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - Despite goals from Ian Block and Kyle Hyland, the IUPUI men's soccer team came up on the short end of a 3-2 decision to host Milwaukee at the 38th Panther Invitational on Friday (Aug. 31) night. The Jaguars allowed the game-winning goal to Milwaukee's Pol Narbona just one second shy of going to overtime.

IUPUI dropped to 1-2 on the season and will take on Canisius at 1:00 p.m. Eastern on Sunday in game two of the Panther Invitational. Milwaukee improved to 2-1 on the year.

The Jaguars were seemingly climbing out of holes all night, beginning with UWM's Laurie Bell scoring the game's first goal in the 30th minute on a penalty kick. However, Block pulled the Jaguars even just more than nine minutes later when he scored from in close, finishing over the head of UWM goalkeeper John Shakon off an assist from senior Ryan Robinson. It was Block's third career goal and Robinson's second-ever assist.

Once again, the Panthers went in front, this time in the 53rd minute. Bell slotted a pass inside the Jaguars' penalty area to Aaron Horvat, who blasted a shot past freshman goalkeeper Eduardo Cortes off the post and into the IUPUI net.

Trailing for the second time in the game, Hyland ultimately had an answer. The left-footed senior was awarded a penalty kick in the 64th minute, but had his initial strike stopped by Shakon. However, the savvy Hyland pegged the rebound past the UWM goalie for his third goal in as many games this season.

Milwaukee nearly went back in front in the 65th minute on a pair of attempts from James Ashcroft, but an IUPUI defender cleared the first shot before Cortes snared the rebound attempt. IUPUI's best scoring chances came from Emile Garcia in the second half but the senior defender fired wide right in the 79th minute and had an attempt snuffed out in the 84th.

Just as the match appeared to be headed to overtime, the hosts scored the capper with just one tick remaining. Horvat put an initial attempt on frame that Cortes deflected, but Narbona flew in and got a finishing touch on the ball for the game-winner. It was redemption for the Panthers, who lost their season-opener to Marquette on a goal scored with one second remaining.

Milwaukee outshot the Jaguars 26-10 overall and 15-7 on frame. Cortes made 10 saves and benefitted from a pair of saves from his defensive teammates. Shakon made five stops in the win for the Panthers.

Bell led all players with six shot attempts and Garcia and Hyland led IUPUI with three each.

IUPUI's match with Canisius on Sunday will be broadcast on the Horizon League network.
