INDIANAPOLIS - Sporting a new hairdo, IUPUI men's soccer senior Caleb Lindemann picked an opportune time for his first goal as a Jaguar as the forward drilled a strike past Detroit's Brandon Waterstradt in the 97th minute, giving the Jags a 2-1 win on Tuesday night. It marked the first time since 2005 IUPUI has won its regular season opener and was also the program's first-ever win over Detroit.

Sophomore Yogi Snider played a long chip into a pack of players before the ball bounded free around the top of the 18. Lindemann took one touch before drilling a right-footed strike past Waterstradt for the golden goal.

"I was feeling good about tonight and I came through in the end," the freshly mohawked Lindemann said. "Immediately when I saw it bouncing in the box, I knew I was pouncing on it. It came off my foot well and ended up in the back of the net.

"It's a good feeling."

Despite being whistled for 35 fouls, the second-highest single-game total in school history, IUPUI was feeling good for most of the second half. Freshman defender Emile Garcia scored in his collegiate debut in the 68th minute to give the Jaguars a 1-0 advantage.

After Kyle Gentile played a restart from the right side, the ball got to Derek Craig's feet, who knocked the it off a cast of defenders. From there, the ball bounded free to the left of the goal where Garcia drilled a well placed shot past Waterstradt for the score.

IUPUI (1-0) relinquished the lead 5:01 later when Nick Dreshaj skied above a defender to head a shot past Tyler Keever. UD's Kevin Pinkos set up the play with a restart from near midfield, finding Dreshaj about six yards out.

Neither team serious threatened in overtime until Lindemann notched his first collegiate game-winner since the 2006 season at Dayton.

Lindemann also had IUPUI's best scoring chance of the first half when he drilled a shot on frame from the left side, forcing Waterstradt to the ground to make a save on the play. Defensively, the Jaguars limited Detroit (0-1) to just one first half attempt before the Titans' attack adjusted to get eight second half attempts.

Keever made three saves in the victory.

IUPUI now hits the road for a pair of matches at the University of Kentucky Nike Invitational over the weekend. The Jaguars will play the host Wildcats on Friday before finishing against the University of Louisville on Sunday.
