The South Dakota State women's soccer team tied UNLV 0-0 (2 OT) in its Kansas Invitational opener on Friday afternoon...

Both teams entered the weekend 1-1 after splitting a pair of games on opening weekend.

The first half was rather quiet, as neither team found the net and threatened sparsely.

While South Dakota State led in shots (6-4), UNLV made the most of its shots with the advantage in shots on goal (3-1). SDSU also led in corner kicks (4-2). The Rebels were whistled for seven fouls and one offside. The Jacks committed four fouls and no offside.

Christa Nyblom led the attack with one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Elisa Stamatakis made three saves in the first 45 minutes.

The second half was more of the same, as each team had its opportunities but failed to capitalize.

UNLV led the second half in shots (3-2), but both teams recorded two shots on goal. The Rebels attempted five corner kicks, while SDSU did not attempt a corner. UNLV was whistled for five fouls and no offside. The Jacks were whistled for three fouls and two offside.

Alyssa Brazil and Delaney Ratcliffe posted one shot on goal apiece. Stamatakis added two saves in the second half.

The first overtime period was very similar to the second half.

Katie McNeary attempted two shots for SDSU. In the second overtime period, Stamatakis was tested and stood up to the challenge, saving two UNLV shots on goal.

The game ended in a 0-0 (2 OT) tie.

"It was another hard-fought game that went back-and-forth," head coach Lang Wedemeyer said. "Both teams had chances to win. I felt that we showed remarkable improvement at times through the match."

SDSU finished with the advantage in shots (11-10), but UNLV led in shots on goal (7-3). The Rebels took eight corner kicks, while the Jacks took five. UNLV was whistled for 17 fouls and one offside. SDSU was whistled for 12 fouls and two offside.

Four SDSU players tied with two shots to lead the team. Stamatakis made seven total saves to preserve the tie.

The Jacks record moves to 1-1-1 on the young season.

Next up SDSU faces Georgia in its first-ever meeting with an SEC school, let alone the Bulldogs.
