BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second time this season, sophomore Annika Jansa has been named the Patriot League's Midfielder of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Jansa was stellar at both ends of the field in Lehigh's 1-0 overtime victory over American on Saturday. Jansa netted the game-winning goal at the 97:19 mark to give the Mountain Hawks the thrilling overtime triumph. The goal came following a corner kick as she corralled a loose ball and fired her team-leading fourth goal into the bottom left corner, just inside the post.
As a defensive midfielder, she was also part of a defensive effort that allowed just seven total shots and only one shot on goal. In the end, Lehigh pitched its sixth shutout of the year and 18th shutout since the beginning of last season.
The win moved Lehigh to 6-3-4 on the season, and 2-1-2 in Patriot League play. Next up, the Mountain Hawks will take on rival Lafayette in Easton this Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
