Scouting Richmond:  Richmond has a 1-4 record that includes losses to Top 25 teams Wake Forest (4-1) and Virginia Tech (2-0), an overtime defeat at Longwood (2-1) and a road loss at CAA preseason favorite William and Mary (3-0).  UR's only win came at home against Villanova (3-1) in its home opener on Aug. 31.
     The Spiders were picked by league coaches to finish second behind Dayton in the 16-team Atlantic 10 Conference.
     Junior All-America forward Becca Wann, the 2011 A-10 Offensive Player of the Year, has yet to play with the Spiders as she is with the U.S. Under-20 Team at the Under-20 World Cup in Japan.  The U.S. meets Germany in the championship match on Sept. 8.

The Series with Richmond:  JMU leads the series 13-7-1 and has won the last two meetings, including a 2-0 win in 2011 in Harrisonburg.  The Spiders, however, won the two previous meetings.  That included a 3-0 Spiders' victory at JMU in 2009 and a 2-1 win in Richmond in 2008.

Scouting Virginia:  The seventh-ranked (NSCAA) Cavaliers take a 5-1 record and a five-game winning streak into a game vs. George Mason in the Sept. 7 opening round of the Nike Classic.  Virginia opened the season with a 3-1 home loss to Penn State and then shut out its next four opponents (Radford 5-0, Liberty 3-0, UNC Wilmington 2-0 and 23rd-ranked Texas 3-0) before allowing a goal in a 2-1 win at Southern Methodist on Sept. 2.
     Virginia was picked to finish fifth in the 11-team Atlantic Coast Conference, as voted by the league's coaches.
     Virginia head coach Steve Swanson and Cavalier sophomore midfielder Morgan Brian have missed UVa's early-season matches due to the Under-20 World Cup in Japan.  Swanson, the U.S. Under-20 coach, has guided the team to the championship match vs. Germany on Sept. 8.

The Series with Virginia:  Virginia leads the series 16-1-2 and has won the last eight meetings.  The teams last met in 2005, when Virginia won 1-0 in Harrisonburg.

Road Stretch Continues:  JMU's Aug. 31 game at Penn was the first of four straight road matches for the Dukes.  Following games in the Sept. 7 and 9 Virginia Nike Classic, JMU travels to Navy for a Sept. 14 contest.
     After a Sept. 16 home game vs. Charlotte, the Dukes are back on the road at Old Dominion on Sept. 20 and at William and Mary on Sept. 23.

Four Opponents Projected for NCAA Field:  Four JMU opponents are projected to be among the 64 teams in the 2012 NCAA Tournament field, according to the website TopDrawerSoccer.com.  The weekly rankings are a running attempt to project the postseason NCAA Tournament qualifiers, including every automatic conference berth.
