Easton, Pa. – UMBC women’s soccer’s senior goalkeeper Lauren Kadet (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) took over as the program’s all-time saves leader, after posting four stops in Wednesday night’s non-conference 1-0 overtime loss against Lafayette at Oaks Stadium. Kadet’s 342 saves surpasses Nadine Henchcliffe (339).

The Leopards’ Jaclyn Giordano knocked in the game-winner at the 97:24 mark to improve Lafayette’s record to 4-3-1 on the season, while UMBC’s unbeaten streak ends at five games as the Retrievers fall to 5-3-2.

UMBC put the pressure on the Leopards early, picking up its first of six corners in the game just 1:16 into the contest. Junior back Melissa Hummel’s (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) kick setup a header from sophomore midfielder Nikki Boretti (Crofton, Md./Archbishop), but the crossbar put a halt on the Retrievers hope of taking a 1-0 advantage. The black and gold would add two more shots during the opening 10 minutes, but were unable to place any on net.

Kadet tied the record prior to the half, making a save on a shot from Avery Jackson following a corner kick. Boretti responded minutes later by placing a shot on net, UMBC’s only shot on goal of the night.

UMBC missed out on another quality opportunity six minutes before the end of regulation, as a shot from the reigning America East Rookie of the Week Amanda Dailey (Howell, N.J./Freehold Township/Monmouth) nailed off the crossbar.

Lafayette made a push in the final minutes of the second period, picking up a corner kick and following with shots from Giordano and Alyssa Finelli.

Giordano posted the only two shots of the overtime period, sending her first shot wide of the net in the 94th minute and following with the score from the right side, coming off a headed pass from the Leopards’ point leader Finelli.

UMBC starts its America East schedule on Sunday, Sept. 29 with a matchup against Maine. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Alumni Field.
