MILWAUKEE - Sophomore Maegan Kelly'sgolden goal in the 109th minute was all the No. 12 Marquette University women's soccer team needed to defeat No. 14 Milwaukee, 1-0, Wednesday evening at Engelmann Stadium.

Marquette handed UWM (6-1-0) its first loss of the season while the Golden Eagles improve to 6-1-0 overall.

Lindsey Page found Maegan Kelly open near the top of the 18-yard box and with UWM keeper Jamie Forbes off her mark, Kelly was able to chip the ball over Forbes and in the back of the net for the game winner.
The Golden Eagles controlled play for the majority of the game and owned a 19-6 shots advantage with 11 of those attempts on goal. Marquette's defense was stifling in the shutout allowing the Panthers only one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Natalie Kulla earned her third shutout of the season, 35th of career, while making one save for the entire game.

By the end of the first frame, Marquette had already registered five shots, including two by Lisa Philbin in the first 11 minutes of the game. Her first shot was knocked wide by Forbes and her second attempt hit the crossbar.

Megan Jaskowiak had MU's best chance in the first half, a rocket from 30 yards out, in the 40 minute that Forbes punched up and over the crossbar.

Coming out of the halftime break, Emily Scott gave UWM a chance in the 49th minute, but her shot went wide. It was one of only three shot attempts the Panthers were able to generate in the second stanza.

The Golden Eagles continued to create numerous opportunities but were unable to finish in the second half. Ashley Stemmeler had a good look at the goal in the 69th minute with her attempt to get on the end of a service from Jaskowiak, and had another solid chance with a header to the far post that was saved by Forbes at the 74:50 mark.

Marquette pressured in the final 15 minutes of regulation as Taylor Madigan, Ally Miller and Stemmeler each had shots that went wide or denied by Forbes.

Kelly nearly won it for Marquette in the 94th minute as Forbes came off her line in effort to stop Mady Vicker on the wing. Vicker's touch hit the post and Kelly tried to recover it for the game winner, but her attempt was cleared off the goal line by defender Mary Wandolowski.
