Kentucky women announce 2011 recruting class

LEXINGTON, KY – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team has announced its 2011 class as announced by head coach Jon Lipsitz on Thursday.

“Our goal for the University of Kentucky women’s soccer program is to play an attacking, possession style, as fast as possible,” Lipsitz said. “We focus our recruiting on finding the most technical and athletically gifted players. This class definitely meets those goals and will help take the development of the program to the next level.

“This group has already garnered national attention for the exciting, attacking personalities included. While definitely true, I think it’s also a well-rounded class from goalkeeping in the back all the way through to the front of the field.”

The 2011 class includes:

Emma Brown, from Louisville, Ky., is currently a senior at duPont High School. Brown plays her club ball for Johnathon Velotta and the Mockingbird Valley Soccer Club. A member of the Kentucky ODP state program from 2005-2010 and the ODP Region II player pool in 2008 and 2009, Brown is ranked 75th on TopDrawerSoccer.com’s top 100 players to watch list in the Class of 2011. She was named to the NSCAA/Adidas High School Girls All-Region IV team 2008, 2009 and 2010 and finished her prep career with 79 goals and 59 assists.

Haisha Cantave, a native of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, is attending Ecole secondaire Loui-Riel. A member of the Canadian U17 National team, for whom she has started every game, Cantave played in the FIFA U17 Women World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago, playing for team Canada. She scored Canada’s first and only goal at the competition. Cantave is a two-time nominee for the Canada Soccer Association National Player of the Year.

Arin Gilliland, from Wilmore, Ky., is currently enrolled at UK. A graduate of West Jessamine High School, she played her club ball the Ohio Elite, coached by Doug Bracken. A member of the U18 National Team, Gilliland recently went to camp with the U20 National Team.Gilliland was named the Eurosport Player of the Year and was named  Parade and NSCAA All-America and was named this year’s Miss Kentucky soccer. She finished her career with 109 career goals at West Jessamine.

Molly Huber, a native of St. Louis, Mo., is attending Ursuline Academy and playing her club soccer for Nando Hernandez and Scott Mcdoniel and St. Louis Scott Gallagher. A member of the Region II 1993 ODP team since 2008, Huber competed in the Portugal ODP International Trip in April of 2010, playing against Ireland U17 & U19 National Teams and Benfica Lisbon Portuguese Futbol Club. An All-Conference selection in her junior year at Ursuline, Huber finished with 13 goals and 10 assists last season.

Marissa Madison, from Wayne, N.J., is a senior at Wayne Valley High School. A member of the PDA TSUNAMI, coached by Mike Gould, Madison was a member of the NJ State ODP Team in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Named her club team’s team captain from 2006-10, she helped lead the team to the 2009 US Club National Championship. As a member of the Wayne Valley team, Madison was named three-time New Jersey All-State her last three seasons in high school.

Taylor Mogel, a native of Scottsdale, Ariz., is in her senior year at Notre Dame Preparatory. Playing her club ball for Ally Maxwell and the SC Del Sol 93 Girls Maxwell, Mogel helped her club team win seven state championships as well as a Region IV finalist and a ranking among the top 25 club teams in the nation. Individually, Mogel, a goalie, was a member of the ODP Region IV camp. An ESPN “Player to Watch” Mogel has been named First Team All-Region and currently has guided her team to an undefeated season.

Stuart Pope, from Fayetteville, Ga., is currently a senior at Starrs Mill High School. A member of the Gwinnett Soccer Association (GSA) Phoenix coached by Campbell Chapman, Pope is a six-time team captain and helped lead the Phoenix to six-straight Georgia club state championships. A three-year member of the Georgia state ODP team, Pope helped lead her high school team to the Georgia 4A state championship in her junior year while being named All-Region and the team’s best offensive player.

Kayla Price, from Lexington, Ky., is a senior at Henry Clay High School. She played club for Doug Bracken and the Ohio Elite. A club teammate of future UK teammate Arin Gilliland, Price was named a 2009/2010 ESPN RISE state all-star. A four-time All-State performer and two-time Regional Player of the Year with Henry Clay, Price helped lead the Blue Devils to a district championship as well as a runner-up finish this season.
