Riverside, CA—College Sports Madness named UC Riverside goalkeeper Ashkan Khosravi the Madness Men's Soccer Big West Player of the Week today for matches played the week of August 20-26. The award comes on the heals of the Dallas, TX native garnering Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors earlier in the day.

The freshman opened the 2012 season posting back-to-back shutouts on the road against Marist and 40th ranked Iona. Khosravi made seven saves over the two matches.

It is just the second time in the Division I history of the program that the men's soccer team has won its first two matches, and the first time that they have recorded shutouts in their first two matches. The last time the Highlanders recorded consecutive shutouts was October 10 and 13, 2007 when they blanked Cal State Fullerton 1-0 and played to a scoreless tie at Cal State Northridge.

Next up in the record books for Khosravi and the Highlanders is the program mark for consecutive shutout minutes of 2:56.02 set over four matches in October of 2006.

UC Riverside returns to California this weekend, traveling to Irvine for the UC Irvine Invitational. On Friday, August 31, UCR takes on Detroit at 4:30 pm PT, and on Sunday, September 2 they play Long Island at 2 pm.
