Lady Scots Draw in Regular Season Opener

September 9, 2011

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Thursday night, the Lady Scots took on Trevecca Nazarene University in an intense regular season opener.  The Lady Scots began slow but worked great as a team for their first game this season.  Both teams played great defensively which resulted in a tie game at 1-1.

Trevecca dominated the first half, tallying 8 shots toward freshman keeper Hannah Bales.  Covenant managed only one shot in the first half.

Despite their somewhat slow first half, the Lady Scots returned to the field and scored within the first 3 minutes of the second.  A beautiful pass from freshman forward Teagan Wood allowed Amy Dykstra a perfect opportunity to score, of which she took full advantage.  From 10 yards out, Dykstra came up with the pass with an empty net ahead of her and a practically gift-wrapped chance to open the 2011 scoring for Covenant.

Covenant slowly became comfortable with its 1-0 lead, a level of comfort that ultimately led to complacency, giving the ball away with sloppy passing.  Trevecca’s Alex Hammond benefitted from a series of miscues from the Lady Scot defense, and was able to level the game at one apiece.  This eventually sent the game into two grueling overtimes. The Lady Scots played well in the overtime periods, stopping several attempts at the goal and coming up with a few brilliant chances of their own.

Wood finished the game with 7 of the Lady Scots 10 shots.  Bales recorded 6 saves in her Covenant debut.

The Lady Scots next game is at home versus Oklahoma Baptist University.  Game time is scheduled for Saturday, September 3 at 7:00 p.m. on Scotland Yard.  Covenant worked great together, especially with a few new freshmen, and this season is looking to hold great things for the young tea
