style="font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px;"> JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Lafayette’s first road test of the season resulted in a scoreless draw against St. Peter’s on Wednesday afternoon at Jaroschak Field. Lafayette goalkeeper Nathan McDonald made four saves and walked away with his 12^th career shutout. 

In the opening half, Lafayette’s best chance to put one past St. Peter’s keeper Carlos Suarez came early on when Tom McCutcheonsent a long ball in behind the Peacocks’ back four. Jeff McLaughlin was able to run in behind and found himself 1v1 with the goalie, but his shot was hit at Suarez and controlled without a rebound. 

On the other end, McDonald faced two shots, but didn’t see any quality attempts on goal. Suarez turned away three for St. Peter’s (0-1-1) in the first period. 

Less than five minutes into the second half, St. Peter’s Rafael Braga ripped a shot the nicked the top of the crossbar behind McDonald. On Lafayette’s next possession, the Leopards earned a corner kick and the ball bounced out to McCutcheon for a right-footed strike, but Suarez was there with a dive to his left, keeping the game tied. 

Striker Peter Adubato won a 50-50 ball inside the St. Peter’s half in the 83^rd minute and found himself in alone after settling the ball down with his chest. After taking a touch, Suarez came out to challenge and was able to get just enough of Adubato’s shot to deflect it off the outside of the far post. 

McDonald’s toughest test in regulation came in the 89^th minute when Nick Sifrin fired a shot from just outside the penalty area and McDonald was forced to reach back and deflect the ball over the bar. The Leopards defended the ensuing corner and the match went to overtime. 

With two minutes to play in the first extra session, McLaughlin got on the end of an Alec Golini corner kick and headed it on target, but Peacocks’ defender Louis Mobbs cleared it off the goal line with his head to preserve the stalemate. 

The last chance to break the tie came on a long shot by Nate Arronson late in the second overtime following a Lafayette (1-0-2) corner kick. Arronson met the bouncing ball with his right foot and the shot made its way through the mass of players and on target, but Suarez was there secured his 12^th save of the contest. The Maroon and White outshot the Peacocks 14-11 on the day and held a 10-6 edge in corners.

Lafayette’s next game is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. when the Leopards host Quinnipiac at Oaks Stadium.  The program is celebrating its 100^th Anniversary Season throughout the day with an alumni game at 11 a.m. and a pregame tailgate at Kamine Pavilion.

McDonald’s 12 career clean sheets put him two behind Jay Freedman ’04, who is seventh on the all-time list. 

Lafayette leads the all-time series against St. Peter’s 7-1-1.
