Lamar falls at Southeastern Louisiana

October 7, 2013

HAMMOND, La. – Kristin Bos moved into a tie for second place on the all-time Lamar goal-scoring list, but the Cardinals dropped a 3-1 decision at Southeastern Louisiana in a Southland Conference women’s soccer game Sunday.

Bos’ goal was the 18th of her career, putting her into a tie with Lisa Hance. Kimmy Albeno, who scored the game-winning goal in Friday’s victory at Nicholls, holds the Lamar record with 23.

Lamar (4-8-1 overall, 1-4-1 Southland) never led in the game. Katie Noonan gave the Lady Lions (9-2-1, 4-2-0) the lead just 49 seconds into the game, converting a pass from Casey Peacock. Bos tied the game at 1-1 at the 15:40 mark. Jannet Hernandez picked up the assist on the play.

“We had a breakdown on that early goal, but we came right back and scored a brilliant goal,” Lamar coach Orlando Cervantes said. “I thought we played well in the first half.”

The score stayed that way until Erin Christ gave Southeastern Louisiana the lead for good 10:21 into the second half.  Brianna Singh scored on a breakaway with 3:42 remaining to ice the contest.

“We got away from our game in the second half,” Cervantes said. “We’re not going to win if we play their game. We have to play our game.”

Lamar returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday at Sam Houston State before hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1 p.m. Sunday. For ticket information, call (409) 880-1715 or visit www.LamarCardinals.com. Tickets are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Montagne Center ticket office. Tickets will be available at the Lamar Soccer Complex one hour prior to game time.

“We have to fight through this,” Cervantes said of his team’s adversity. “We’ll find a way.”
